Our Commitment
Sports Culture Canada Association (SCCA) is committed to creating safe, inclusive, respectful, and empowering environments through sports, cultural, and recreational activities.
We exist to support newcomers, refugees, the Black community, youth, and families, using sports and culture as tools for social inclusion, well-being, and community connection.
This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behavior expected from everyone involved in SCCA programs and events.
1. Purpose of the Code of Conduct
- The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to:
- Promote respect, dignity, and fairness for all participants
- Ensure safe participation in sports, cultural, and recreational activities
- Protect individuals from discrimination, harassment, and abuse
- Support positive integration, belonging, and community development
- Uphold values that strengthen newcomers, refugees, and Black communities

2. Who This Code Applies To
This Code of Conduct applies to:
- Program participants and community members
- Youth and adult participants
- Newcomers, refugees, and families supported by SCCA
- Volunteers, staff, and board members
- Coaches, facilitators, and activity leaders
- Partners, sponsors, and collaborators
- Parents, guardians, and spectators at SCCA activities
3. Core Principles
- Respect & Dignity
- Treat all individuals with respect, empathy, and fairness
- Recognize and value cultural, racial, ethnic, religious, and linguistic differences
- Respect personal boundaries, identities, and lived experiences
Inclusion, Equity & Anti-Racism
Create welcoming spaces where newcomers, refugees, and Black community members feel safe and valued:
- Actively oppose racism, discrimination, exclusion, and systemic barriers
- Promote equity in participation, leadership, and opportunities
- Safety & Well-Being
- Prioritize physical, emotional, and psychological safety
- Follow all safety rules and activity guidelines
- Support trauma-informed and culturally sensitive engagement
Community Empowerment
- Use sports, culture, and recreation as tools for confidence-building and social connection
- Encourage teamwork, mutual support, and leadership development
Integrity & Accountability
- Act honestly, ethically, and responsibly
- Take responsibility for actions and their impact on others
4. Expected Standards of Behavior
All individuals involved with SCCA must:
- Participate respectfully in sports, cultural, and recreational activities
- Encourage positive, inclusive, and supportive participation
- Use respectful language and behavior at all times
- Follow instructions from coaches, facilitators, and staff
- Respect facilities, equipment, and community spaces
- Communicate responsibly in person and on digital platforms
- Support a welcoming environment for newcomers and refugees
5. Unacceptable Behavior
- The following behaviors will not be tolerated:
- Racism, discrimination, or exclusion of any kind
- Harassment, bullying, intimidation, or hateful behavior
- Physical or verbal violence or threats
- Sexual harassment or misconduct
- Abuse of power or authority
- Use of alcohol or illegal substances during activities (unless authorized)
- Damage to facilities, equipment, or community property
- Any behavior that undermines safety, dignity, or community trust
6. Protection of Children, Youth & Vulnerable Individuals
SCCA is committed to protecting children, youth, newcomers, refugees, and other vulnerable individuals.
- All interactions must be appropriate, respectful, and transparent
- Any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation is strictly prohibited
- Concerns related to safety must be reported immediately
7. Reporting Concerns or Violations
Anyone who witnesses or experiences a violation of this Code of Conduct is encouraged to report it.
Reports may be made to:
- An SCCA staff member or program coordinator
- An event or activity leader
- By email or written communication
All reports will be handled with confidentiality, sensitivity, and fairness.
8. Consequences of Violations
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in:
- Verbal or written warnings
- Temporary suspension from programs or events
- Removal from activities, volunteer roles, or partnerships
- Permanent exclusion from SCCA programs
- Further action where required by law
Actions taken will reflect the seriousness of the violation and prioritize community safety.
9. Commitment to Fair & Respectful Process
SCCA is committed to addressing concerns through a fair, transparent, and respectful process.
All individuals involved will be treated with dignity, cultural sensitivity, and respect.
10. Acknowledgement
Participation in any Sports Culture Canada Association program, event, or activity signifies agreement to abide by this Code of Conduct.
Together, through sports, culture, and recreation, we commit to building stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities—especially for newcomers, refugees, and the Black community.
